Tom Cruise Causes A Disaster In First Trailer For Iñárritu’s Digger
Can Digger Rockwell save the world from his own catastrophe?
Warner Bros has released the first trailer for Digger, starring Tom Cruise in a lead role that has him wearing heavy prosthetics.
The film follows Digger Rockwell, the most powerful man in the world, as he embarks on a crazy mission to save humanity from a world-ending disaster that he unleashed. Beyond Cruise, the film also stars Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Michael Stuhlbarg and Emma D’Arcy. Cruise is also co-producing the film alongside Iñárritu and Mary Parent.
The film is directed by Mexican filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is best known for his Best Picture-winning Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), as well as The Revenant, Babel, Amores Perros, and BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths.
Iñárritu has co-written the film alongside Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone and Sabina Berman. Dinelaris and Giacobone have worked with the director before on some of his other projects.
The film was shot on VistaVision as Iñárritu reteamed with Oscar-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki to achieve a muted and drained colour palette.
At a Warner Bros event last Thursday, Iñárritu said, “The film needed Tom. We wanted to work together since the beginning of the century. I admired him as an actor for years, and that wasn’t a surprise for me. The surprise was discovering that the human being behind the actor was just as extraordinary as the performances I will see throughout his career.”
At the event, Cruise added that “It took me 40 years to become this character.”
“I think when you see Digger, just the level of detail, the skill, the layers of making this film… He’s (Iñárritu) never made something like this before, nor have I.”
