If romance were a science, The Love Hypothesis might just be the perfect experiment. The first teaser for the highly anticipated Prime Video adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s bestselling novel has been unveiled.
The film stars Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith, a PhD candidate navigating life as a young woman in STEM, who finds herself caught in an unexpected fake relationship with the notoriously intimidating Professor Adam Carlsen, played by Tom Bateman. What begins as a harmless lie to convince her best friend, Ahn (Rachel Marsh), that she has moved on from Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay) soon develops into something far more complicated.
It also delivers several moments fans of the novel have been eagerly waiting to see on screen, including Olive and Adam’s first kiss, the iconic sunscreen scene and the much-loved bridal lift, offering an early glimpse at the chemistry between Reinhart and Bateman.
Rather than opting for a conventional rom-com preview, the teaser fully embraces its academic setting. Styled as a retro scientific instructional video, the footage uses chemical diagrams and tongue-in-cheek narration to frame Olive and Adam’s growing connection as an experiment, with attraction, tension and emotional chaos all becoming part of the equation.
Since its release, The Love Hypothesis has become one of the most popular contemporary rom-com novels in recent years, winning readers over with its sharp humour, heartfelt romance and refreshing STEM-centred perspective.
Directed by Claire Scanlon (Set It Up) from a script by Sarah Rothschild, the film also sees Reinhart serving as an executive producer. Watch the trailer below:
