‘The Flintstones’ Live-Action Remake Is In The Works
The Flintstones, the groundbreaking prehistoric family cartoon, is reportedly being developed into a new live-action feature film.
Unlike previous entries, the film will not focus on Fred Flintstone. Instead, the adaptation will centre around Bamm-Bamm Rubble, the son of supporting character Barney Rubble. Ryan Gosling and Jessie Henderson are preparing to produce the film through their Open Invite production label. A screenwriter is yet to be hired. Some sources wager that Gosling will be cast in a role, although no formal announcements have been made.

The show first ran in 1960 as an animated series for six seasons, a collaboration between Hanna-Barbera and ABC. The Stone Age family includes Fred and Wilma Flintstone, their pet dinosaur Dino, and their best friends Barney and Betty Rubble. Fox planned to bring back ‘The Flintstones’ with an animated sequel series titled ‘Bedrock,’ but the project never passed the development stage. Universal released a live-action film in 1994, starring John Goodman as Fred and Rick Moranis as Barney. With a $340 million global gross, a prequel, titled ‘Viva Rock Vegas,’ soon followed in 2000. Gosling and Henderson’s project has no release date yet.
The news comes at a successful period for Gosling, who is fresh off Project Hail Mary, which many predict will win him awards. He has also just been announced as working with director Shawn Levy on the upcoming movie Star Wars Starfighter, as well as Marvel Studios’ upcoming reboot of Ghost Rider. There are talks with Warner Bros about the rumoured sequel to Barbie, but it remains to be seen at this stage if that project will reach the light of day due to conflicts over stalled salary and backend deal negotiations.
