Dan Stevens Cast As ‘RoboCop’ For Prime Video
Dan Stevens is suiting up to play an iconic sci-fi hero. We’re talking about the titular character in Prime Video’s upcoming RoboCop series.
His casting announcement comes a little over a month after Amazon MGM Studios officially greenlit the series, which has been in development for at least a couple of years. The new seriesโfrom showrunner Peter Ocko (Pushing Daisies, The Office) and producer James Wan (Aquaman, The Conjuring) is the latest attempt to reboot the franchise that started with the 1987 Paul Verhoeven action classic.
In the original film, Peter Weller starred as police officer Alex Murphy, who was murdered by a gang of criminals while on duty in Detroit and resurrected through a revolutionary procedure run by the OCP corporation. Murphy is transformed into RoboCop, a cyborg officer programmed to uphold the law. The action-packed yet satirical film explores themes of technology, identity, and corporate greed.

Since its release, the original RoboCop has accrued cult status. It was followed by two sequels, including RoboCop 2ย in 1990 andย RoboCop 3ย in 1993 (where Robert Burke took over the role). There have also been several TV series and a poorly received remake in 2014, which featured Joel Kinnaman in the title role alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, and Michael Keaton. Now, it’s Stevens’ turn to take on the iconic role.
After breaking out in the first three seasons of Downton Abbey, Stevens has gone on to star in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast remake, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and FXโs Legion. Later this year, heโll appear as the ‘Five Borough Killer‘ in the second season of Dexter: Resurrection.
Prime Video’s RoboCop series is scheduled to begin shooting in January.
