20 years ago we chose life when Danny Boyle‘s seminal cult movie Trainspotting was released in 1996. It gave life, not just to the cast but also the director, but now the gang is back for T2 Trainspotting. This time choose life, choose Facebook, Choose Twitter,Choose Instagram, Choose Zero Hour Contract, choose watching the full UK trailer….
Two Decades on a lot has happened, not just in the upcoming movie but also behind the scenes as the original cast mulled over when exactly would be the right time. Some even didn’t want to come back. Then it was, what would the source book be and from day one Irvine Welsh‘s Porno is that source. It’s a loose source as ‘Porno’ is only 10 years after the original movie.
Here’s the official synopsis..
First there was an opportunity……then there was a betrayal.
Twenty years have gone by. Much has changed but just as much remains the same. Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) returns to the only place he can ever call home. They are waiting for him: Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), and Begbie (Robert Carlyle).Other old friends are waiting too: sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger, they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance.
That iconic opening line from Renton is back but with a modern twist “Choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and hope that someone, somewhere cares.” Now instead of running down Princess Street Edinburgh he’s on the tram with Underworld‘s Born Slippy playing in the background. As the trailer progresses Renton claims he’s off the heroin…The more things change, the more they stay the same.
The music, the whole look of the movie created a culture and even 20 years on Trainspotting soundtrack is still as popular as the day the original Trainspotting was out. Very much the soundtrack of the 1990’s for the young generation.
The trailer doesn’t reveal much of the storyline, more the boys are back in town ready for the same debauched fun as before. Even Kelly MacDonald is back too with Irvine Welsh once again back as Mikey Forrester.
T2 Trainspotting is set for a 27th January 2017 UK&Irish release date (USA 3rd then 10th February).
