Sunday Short Theatre – Waffle Home (2021)
Sunday Short Theatre returns this week, after a few on-off weeks. We’re feeling hungry and fancy a laugh too and we might just get it in this week’s choice.
This week’s short comes from Matt Everitt withย Waffle Home. A 10 minute suspenseful comedy film based around a reddit advice thread about relationships. (a viral Reddit thread (here) post in May 2020 by user ThrowRA_Wafflehouse in relationshipadvice). We follow Abel dad listened to too much John Piper and wouldn’t let them eat breakfast for dinner. Now everyone is paying the price.
Like much of social media, it has it’s positives, even rewards. Sometimes those sites can bring negativity, most of all it’s intriguing to see how others see things. In this case relationships and those replies expand like branches of a tree, sensible advice the rest just stupid.
Waffle Home is the final outcome from this Reddit thread as the director related with the person in the thread. Similar characters in cinema (Travis Bickle, Arthur Fleck, etc…) glorify actions, in this one we see Abel suffer for what he has done. Never let reality get in the way of the truth, us men can doย stupid things (yes so can women).
Based on a viral Reddit thread, Waffle Home is about Abel confronting some childhood demons at a diner with his girlfriend Kate. Things donโt go well for anyoneโฆ
The film stars Paige Bourne, Kyle Patrick, and Amy Dickinson.
