Sunday Short Theatre – The Lonely Orbit (2019)

The Lonely Orbit (2019)

In these dark times isolation has become sadly part of many of our lives. The one factor no one likes is loneliness and this weeks Sunday Short Theatre The Lonely Orbit is all about it.

the gorgeous Swiss animated short has just finished an successful festival run in 2020. Picking up several awards on it’s journey now Frederic Siegel and Benjamin Morard unearth their prized short.

The pair work under the collective name of Team Tumult, with the film’s idea from Siegel’s time as a student at Lucerne School of Art & Design. The reality of making friends at university and keeping those relationships running long after you leave. Like many of those friendships we do make many that disappear others become digital and to create a character that’s ‘celestial’. Making Siegel fell like a โ€œSomehow this made me feel like a satelliteโ€.

The Lonely Orbit follows the story of who gets a job as an technician for a satellite. He keeps himself sane by texting his old friends, one day he forgets to do his duties causing the world’s networks to collapse.

Visually this film looks wonderful in every measure. The colour palette especially stands out that gives the film that futuristic as well giving the films tone forbidding feel.

Leaving for his dream job, a satellite technician keeps solitude at bay by constantly texting with his old friends. After neglecting his duties a satellite leaves its orbit which causes the worlds network to collapse.
