Rules Of Play (2018)

Wanna play a game? Merlin Flügel Rules Of Play is our choice for this weeks Sunday Short Theatre choice. A choice that brings you a challenge to your brain in an experimental fun way.

Games stimulate us in many ways, probably one of the things kept us sane during lockdown. They keep us distracted when there’s very little else we can do under the circumstances.  The more grown up you are the games get more competitive , sometimes very competitive . I always remember  at school we had game days especially at the end of school years or special times of the year. This 7 minute film looks a little inspired by those days, games are even ritualistic.

Life can be drab bringing a little fun and games to the affray , we take risks to make things better, sadly things can get intoxicating. Our characters are faceless  might feel a little odd but at the same time  we sometimes have another face on when we play.  Even a little sinister too.

The synopsis for this one is simple, a  group of tired playground visitors meet at night for a last contest. This is abstract, experimental with a nice balance of narrative and very unusual games. We do like that things are a little off kilter and different…
