Sunday Short Theatre – Como, ti amo (2022)
Before there was The Peoples Movies I worked overseas for a now defunct holiday company. One of the places I worked was Italy, Sorrento to be precise and Ill admit I didn’t know what to expect. Italy is a beautiful country, very friendly people, delicious food, slowly I grew to love the country. In this weeks Sunday Short Theatre, Como, ti amo we find ourselves in Italy, all we are missing is love.
The 8 minute short film comes from filmmaker Alexi Papalexopoulos. It tells the story of Millennial social media influencer who travels to Lake Como, Italy on assignment. She adores the lavish lifestyle, the beautiful scenery which she shares with her followers. It feels she has everything apart from love.

I came up with the concept for this film on the plane ride to Italy. I wasnโt going to Italy to make a film however, rather to attend a friendโs wedding. The idea of feeling lonely while being surrounded by abundance and beauty has always resonated with me, so a backdrop like Lake Como was perfect for a little story like this. I convinced my talented sister, Arianna, to act in the film while on the plane ride. I had a wireless mic on her and we spent 5 days running around Lake Como, no permits or planning, just shooting and being inspired. It was refreshing to make something this intimate and organic. For me, itโs like a sketch, a poem, a journal entry. Just my thoughts and my creative instinct at play. This approach and intention reminds me of why I got into this medium to begin with.
