The great thing about film festivals it brings us unexpected film trailers, clips and many more film goodies  like the first trailer for Bill Murray new film HYDE PARK ON HUDSON. As Cannes film festival  heats up we get  with Murray promoting his flick latest Moonrise Kingdom his portrayal of Franklin Delano Roosevelt and the weekend he and his Eleanor (Olivia Williams) at their upstate New York hosted the first visit of the British Monarchy(  King George VI and Queen Elizabeth ) on American soil back in 1939. This was also the weekend that Roosevelt had the alleged affair with his cousin Margaret Stuckley (Laura Linney).

The film has been creating such an Oscar buzz that many critic believe this is Murray’s best performance since his last Oscar nod away back in 2004 for Lost In Translation. When you star as such a known figure as Roosevelt your performance is looked at with a fine toothbrush and on evidence it seems Murray has really captured the former presidents characteristics as well as mannerisms and looks like he had such fun playing him. As for how historically accurate this story is we don’t know but it does have the charm even humour but most of all just good to see Murray do something a little more serious as well leading a film instead of supporting it for a change. Surprisingly the film is directed by Roger Mitchell who is more renowned for producing though  Notting Hill is anything to go by with we’re in safe waters with this one.

No exact word on a release date for Hyde Park On Hudson  for the UK&Ireland but for USA it will be out around December time hence its push for some oscar glory. The film also stars Samuel West, Olivia Colman, Elizabeth Marvel, Elizabeth Wilson, and Eleanor Bron

In June 1939, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt (Academy Award nominee Bill Murray) and his wife Eleanor (Olivia Williams) host the King and Queen of England (Samuel West and Olivia Colman) for a weekend at the Roosevelt home at Hyde Park on Hudson, in upstate New York – the first-ever visit of a reigning English monarch to America. With Britain facing imminent war with Germany, the Royals are desperately looking to FDR for support. But international affairs must be juggled with the complexities of FDR’s domestic establishment, as wife, mother, and mistresses all conspire to make the royal weekend an unforgettable one. Seen through the eyes of Daisy (Academy Award nominee Laura Linney), Franklin’s neighbour and intimate, the weekend will produce not only a special relationship between two great nations, but, for Daisy – and through her, for us all – a deeper understanding of the mysteries of love and friendship.
