Will Ryan Reynolds’Be The Only One’ For HIGHLANDER Reboot?
There used to be a time when three strikes and your out meant your out, finished but when it comes to Ryan Reynolds attempting to be a legit action star he seems not to understand the word no or stop right there. In Hollywood’s latest attempt to destroy all integrity what we did do well in cinematic history, it looks like Lionsgate/Summit Entertainment want to give Mr Reynolds ‘To Be The Only’ and give him the prize to lead The Highlander Franchise Re-Boot!
Variety are reporting Summit Entertainent are very keen to give Reynolds another bit of the action cherry and it seems he is very interested too and has opened talks to see if he’ll become Conor McLeod of the clan McLeod. However the actor hasn’t committed himself to doing the project and is weighing up other ‘offers’ so any fans of the original cult films can breath a sigh of relief as this could just simply be pure gossip. I do love the original but i’ll admit the film was never the best film in the world, great soundtrack but I can’t really see Reynolds in this part nor can I picture him with a convincing Scottish Accent (trust me I should know the difference as I am Scottish!). Christopher Lambert or Adrian Paul’s accents were rotten too but will a new version of the film really improve what has gone before, this should be a film we should leave alone. I would be more concerned that the film’s script was penned by Twilight scribe Melissa Rosenberg however Iron Man scribes Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are onboard to re-write though no guarantee’s the script will be good either.
For those very unfamiliar with the original film which starred Christopher Lambert as a Scottish Highlander Conor McLeod who finds out he one of a small group of immortal warriors who is mentored by Ramirez an Egyptian warrior played by Sean Connery. The only way the Immortals would die if they lose their heads to another immortal who would adsorb their powers until the day of the gathering when there could be only one. As you’ll know Reynolds is no stranger to swordplay when he was Deadpool in X-Men Origins:Wolverine sadly a piss poor Deadpool that was underused. Fast & Furious 5 director Justin Lin was onboard to director but its 28 Days Later director Juan-Carlos Fresnadillo is now confirmed which is still a decent helmer as I am a fan of 28 Days Later which is very underrated. When Fresnadillo signed on earlier this year we were expecting the filming to have started sometime in spring but as now cast has been confirmed if Reynolds is the only one expect the filming to start some time this year with us all minding our heads sometime in 2013.
