Sound Of Metal Gets Another New UK Release Date!
In the year that’s just passed since day one of the never ending pandemic it was impossible to make dates. We’ve waited a long time for many films like the critically acclaimed Sound Of Metal. With things taking the slow route out of Lockdown, Vertigo Releasing have given the film a new release date.
The film follows Ruben (Riz Ahmed) and Lou (Olivia Cooke) live together, traveling gig to gig playing their loud, frenzied music. Suddenly Ruben, a passionate drummer, loses his hearing and his world is upended, causing him to struggle with depression and be tempted by past addictions.
Originally the film was set for a 29th January release date, now it’s going to be in May. The past few weeks have made us even more eager to see this as it’s been nominated for many awards including the EE Baftas along with the 93rd Academy Awards. Finally Ahmed getting the critical praise he deserves as an lead actor gaining best actor nominations, fellow actor Paul Raci for Best Supporting. During a series of adrenaline-fueled one-night gigs, itinerant punk-metal drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed) begins to experience intermittent hearing loss. When a specialist tells him his condition will rapidly worsen, he thinks his music career — and with it his life — is over. His bandmate and girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke) checks the recovering heroin addict into a secluded sober house for the deaf in hopes it will prevent a relapse and help him learn to adapt to his new situation. But after being welcomed into a community that accepts him just as he is, Ruben has to choose between his equilibrium and the drive to reclaim the life he once knew. Utilizing startling, innovative sound design techniques, director Darius Marder takes audiences inside Ruben’s experience to vividly recreate his journey into a rarely examined world.
The film also stars Lauren Ridloff, Mathieu Amalric, Chris Perfetti, William Xifaras, Shaheem Sanchez, Chelsea Lee, and Jeremy Stone.
If everything goes to plan with the easing out of Lockdown, Sound Of Metal will get a UK cinema release of 17th May. If your not comfortable heading back to cinemas just yet or things change the film will have a 12th April Amazon Prime Video release.
