Sergio Corbucci’s The Hellbenders Getting A 4K Restoration
Studiocanal UK are set to release Sergio Corbucci’s western The Hellbenders making its UK Blu-ray debut with a 4K restoration as part of the Cult Classics Collection.
The cult spaghetti western directed by the filmmaker who gave us Django, staring Joseph Cotten (The Third Man, Duel in the Sun) and features a brilliant score by legendary composer Ennio Morricone (The Good, The Bad and the Ugly). Releasing in October and will include a saddlebag full of extras.
Corbucci’s gritty vision of an unforgiving west was chosen by Quentin Tarantino for the First Quentin Tarantino Film Fest in Austin, Texas, in 1996, and it is no surprise it is one of his favourite westerns of all time – with Cotten’s towering lead performance, supporting roles for Aldo Sambrell (For a Few Dollars More) and Al Mulloch (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly), Morricone’s rousing score, and a stunning final act twist, an unmissable tale of lust, violence, and extreme vengeance.
After the Civil War, a Unionist convoy transporting one million dollars is attacked by the ex-Confederate Colonel Jonas (Cotten) and his three sons. The fanatical Jonas wants the money to re-form his regiment and to re-ignite the war against the North. However, first they have to smuggle a coffin crammed with the stolen cash across a perilous frontier full of rivalries, treason, and violence.
