Scream 8 Gets Screenwriters
Ghostface in Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group's "Scream VI."
Deadline reports that Spyglass is officially developing the eighth instalment of the Scream franchise. Lilla and Nora Zuckerman will be writing the film, becoming the first women to pen a Scream film. Their credits include Agents of SH.I.E.L.D.and Suits, but they may be best known for their time serving as a showrunner for Peacock’s recent series, Poker Face.
Scream 7 recently crossed the $200M mark at the global box office, becoming the first Scream film to do so. It also grossed $97M for its opening weekend, breaking the franchise record, and indicating to a high demand for the slasher franchise. The seventh installment featured the return of Neve Campbell as the iconic Sidney Prescott alongside Courtney Cox and the creator Kevin Williamson, who directed the film but won’t be involved any further.
Campbell did not return in Scream (2022) due to salary disputes, but was able to return after studio negotiations when both Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega departed the franchise. Matthew Lillard also returned to the Scream franchise after 30 years, reprising his role as Stu Macher, who was one of the two original Ghostface killers in the original 1996 film.
The Zuckermans penned the pilot for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival, titled New Sunnydale; however, as of March 2026, it has been cancelled by Hulu and will not go ahead.
Information about the eighth instalment of Scream is currently limited, but it has been officially greenlit, and more information should be revealed soon.
Alongside Campbell was Isabel May, Joel McHale, Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy-Brown, Anna Camp, McKenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Courtney Cox, with appearances from Scream alumni Scott Foley, David Arquette and Laure Metcalf in blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos.
