Sandra Oh Has 'Mummy Issues' In UK Trailer For Umma

There’s nothing scarier than becoming your mother! Sony Pictures have released the UK Trailer for Umma and Sandra Oh has ‘mummy issues’, but a mother’s love never dies!

When it comes to folk horror, many of the films seem to restricted to countries with a renowned folk history such as Ireland. Korean folklore have been explored in Korean cinema, now heads ‘west’ in Iris K.Shim’s debut feature. She does have someone producing who knows a thing or two about horror, none other than Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead!).

This one Oh plays an Korean American woman Amanda who moves to a quiet farm living with her daughter. She is estranged from her own mother who has recently passed, her remains are sent from Korea to her. It’s when they arrive Amanda becomes haunted to a point she’s becoming her ‘Umma’ (Mother).

Many Koreans believe many hardships we have in life are all thanks to the tormented spirits of our ancestors. If you are eagle eyed in the trailer that spirit is a 9 tailed fox or Kumiho. The film is inspired by the traditions the director experienced in her childhood and hopefully rises above the generic horror tropes. Give us something a little more deeper, creepy maybe even personal.

Umma, which is the Korean word for “mother,” follows Amanda (Sandra Oh) and her daughter (Fivel Stewart) living a quiet life on an American farm, but when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.
