Samuel Bayer want to adapt BOYS comicbook to Big Screen
We don love it when actors, writers, directors ‘accidently’ spill the beans on possible new projects and recently A Nightmare On Elm Street director Samuel Bayer done that. He recently said that he wasn’t interested in doing the sequel for the Freddy Krueger movie two which we know at the moment is at least going to be a trilogy but he hinted that he’s going to adapt a graphic novel.
Here’s what he mentioned to SlashFilm:
There’s a comic– I’m sure my agent would kill me for this, because I’m sure I’m not supposed to talk about it or whatever, but I don’t really care, is that– no, my assistant is shaking her head. No. No? No? I was going to mention a project. Shut up? Okay. I’m doing what people tell me. Yeah, I’ll bury myself with this one. There’s some very, very cool stuff out there. I’m really into graphic novels and really into the superhero genre, and I really think there’s some interesting stuff going on, and I think that’s what I’m leaning towards.
ShockTilYouDrop according to /film where able to find out that the comicbook Bayer is hoping to adapt is Gareth Ennis THE BOYS. The comicbook was originally printed by Wildstorm before it was moved over to dynamite written by Ennis and illustrated by Darrick Robertson. The comicbook follows the story of a group of mercernaries backed by the CIA to keep an eye, control or even take out those masked superheros and are made of Billy Butcher, Wee Hughie, Mother’s Milk (mmm Chilli Peppers fan me thinks?!!), The Frenchman and the Female. Trouble with superheros? just call the Boys!!!
Here’s what he told ShockTilYouDrop:
There’s one comic book I really dig that I want to go after that’s bad-ass. I’d like to get it, it’s called The Boys. It’s about a group of mercenaries and they’re job is to kick the shit out of superheroes who get out of line. It doesn’t get any better than that. In the world of The Boys, superheroes are scumbags. My youngest brother is a comic book historian and he introduced me to a lot of graphic novels like “The Dark Knight.” There are some great books I don’t think people have tapped into yet.
Columbia Pictures have got a nice option on the comic and Fast And Furious producer Neil H Mortiz had started work on bringing the boys to the big screen with AeonFlux/Tuxedo writers Phil Hay & Matt Manfredi had already started work on the movie script but that was away back in 2008 but somehow that disappeared into thin air.
If you dont know who Samuel Bayer is, he is one of a long line of music directors cum movie directors with Nightmare on Elm Street been his first full feature. Bayer has directed and produced music videos for some the biggest names in rock & metal music with Nirvana’s iconic Smells Like Teen Spirit, also directed for Metallica, Marylin Manson, Aerosmith, The Cranberries, Sheryll Crow, Lenny Kravitz and many more.
A Nighmare On Elm Street remake will be in the British and Irish cinemas from May 7th and USA on April 30th.
