With Shutter Island doing its thing big style over in the states and 12th this month here in UK & Ireland it is expected to do similar things when it opens. So if you’ve seen Shutter Island would you have loved to have seen it in 3D format? Like anything these days there’s always someone who wants it, I’m not still totally convinced on the 3-D especially when every blockbuster or even remake is been plugged as a 3d movie. What I really hate is the people who promote 3-D as a new thing, its not the technology has drastically improved.ย  Like what was said in FirstShowing when used in the corect way like Avatar(not the story), Coraline I’ve got no problems but Im affraid there’s too many money grabbing studios diving into the depths of their back catlogues looking for there most obscure movies to remake into 3-D. Get the prices for the movies at a reasonable price and maybe peopel will come more often as well, im not paying ยฃ15.

Sorry about that, Martin Scorsese is one of the iconic, respected movie directors in the businessย  never was the major Blockbuster movie director so when Shutter Island has been topping the American movie charts recently it was great to see that. Scrosese was recently asked about the current trend of making every movie (soon, popcorn, coke, nachos and hotdogs will follow, only joking hehehe) into a 3-d movie he said:

โ€œWe see in depth, for the most part. We go to the theater โ€” itโ€™s in depth. Why couldnโ€™t a film like `Preciousโ€™ be in 3-D? It should be. Iโ€™d love to do one. It just seems natural that weโ€™d be going in that direction. Itโ€™s going to be something to look forward to, but to be used interestingly.โ€ – Filmshaft

We are coming to a crossroads now with 3D its getting out of hand and I think you can say Scorsese agrees that using it with the right movie is essential and he also did say;

“Why couldn’t a film like Precious be in 3-D? It should be.” – FirstShowing

Well the way things are going it may as well be, everything else is! Too many movies are just gimmicks, needs to be ying and yang, story is vital no story you get gimmick. I would n’t be surpirsed that Scorsese may try 3D, what about Travis Bickle in 3D?ย ย  Things need to like seen tossed from the cinema screen towards the audience, things have to jump at you, if they dont it would just be a waste ofย  the technologies ability. Its all down to getting the right reaction from the cinema audience.

So what do you guys think about 3D? It is open to debate and I will admit there’s no side ahead in this debate apart from the film studios income.
