Sams The Man For Dan Dare
When it comes to looking for your lead in your big budget action movies Sam Worthington seems to be your man these day. From Terminator to Avatar as the wheelchair bound hero Jake Sully but now it seems that his eyes are set on playing the iconic British comicbook hero Dan Dare.
The comicbook started back in the 1950’s with the futue been 20 years ago in 1990. The ‘Biggles’ of space did have that 1950’s feel through it despite been the future, Dan was a pilot for the Interplanet Space Fleet and was never the superhero just an man with super flying abilities and skills in jui jitsu.
Totalfilm spoke to MTV who have said Worthington has confirmed hes getting involved on the project, this what they he said:
“I’m at that stage now where I want to do movies where I get my $16 (£10.60) worth… Something like Dan Dare, there was something in the reboot by [Garth Ennis] that was amazing.”
Worthington was keeping his mouth shout and would n’t say much more, but when he was talking about was the new mini-series comicbook been released by Virgin which involves Gareth Ennis (hopefully we may see Ennis other comic The Preacher soon!!!) which has alot of dark comedy and no holds barred violence bringing the iconic character up to date.
So if Sam Worthington is going to be Dan dare, who will play Mekon?
I was never the massive Dan Dare fan more your Judge Dredd type fan, even though the character was popular in 1950’s he still had a comic book going in the 1980s (see cover above) and this is how i remember him though I never read the comic. Me my pocket money was buying 2000A.D and Roy of The Rover’s everyweek now those where the days!!! MMM Roy of The Rovers movie, i wonder who would play Roy Race???
