With only just recently announcing that Ryan Gosling was signed on for Universal’s secret untitled project with Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as the Daniels, hopes will now fade. Sources have now said that Gosling will no longer be starring in the film.
Deadline first broke the news on 26th March that negotiations for Gosling to star were occurring, news about the films shooting location was also revealed. The untitled, secret, film was set to shoot in Los Angeles this summer, after receiving a California Tax Credit. However, it has now also been moved off its targeted start date. Being unable to work out scheduling appears to have lost the ability to close on the deal with Gosling.
Even without an exact reasoning given for the scheduling error, Ryan Gosling is coming off Sony Pictures Releasing film Project Hail Mary. With the promotion for Project Hail Mary and his long shoot for the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter, it only makes sense that a longer break may be needed and be the scheduling issues.
Though they might have lost Ryan Gosling, Universal and the Daniels are still slated to make their targeted dates. Given, as well, how Gosling was attached to the project, they are sure to have plenty of options who will be chasing for the role now that it is available.
The plot details of this film are still unknown. Now, we know that Scheinert and Jonathan Wang will produce the film through their Playgrounds’ deal with Universal Pictures. No other information apart from its slated release date, 19th November 2027, which we have to look forward to.
