The discourse around the next 007 is heightened with a reveal surely on the horizon, but rumours of the casting only grow. In a recent interview, Saoirse Ronan addressed the whispers that her husband, Jack Lowden, has been cast as the next James Bond.

With Amy Pascal and David Heyman producing the next film under Amazon MGM Studios, there has been no confirmed casting for any of the roles in the franchises continuation. Of course, this leaves room for the public and press to voice opinions and suggestions, and for names to join the ranks – whether for real or in a passing comment.

Ronan was asked about Lowden taking on the role in the next James Bond in an interview with Associated Press. โ€œWell, Gary Oldman thinks heโ€™s James Bond,โ€. She continued, โ€œ[Thatโ€™s] its own thing. Weโ€™re kind of getting on with our life, to be honest. We have plenty of other things to be dealing with. So, yeah, itโ€™s not really a subject thatโ€™s coming up in our house, to be honest. The dog needs to be walked, the dinner needs to be madeโ€”weโ€™re most focused on that.โ€

Gary Oldman threw Lowden’s name in the hat during an interview in early September, advocating for his Slow Horses co-star to take the lead with this iconic character. He told Global News that he’s sure “They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack.”

Ronan, on the otherhand, has voiced her desires to take on a role as a villain in this new Bond era. She notes on the importance of female empowerment, and the opportunity to take the films in a fresh direction with a younger and driven female villain.

I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and Iโ€™m dead serious.โ€ – about comment made to Empire in an interview.

She continued, โ€œI think it would be really interesting, having a young female villain. Especially for girls and women, to see someone who can just take all that pent-up anger and direct it somewhere, thereโ€™s something interesting in that dramatically. So I would love to do more of that.โ€

Denis Villenueve is to be the director for the next James Bond, with Steven Knight as writer – filling out all of the limited information we have on the films creative crew so far, with a cast highly anticipated to come soon.
