Reed Morano To Direct Jennifer Lopez As The Godmother?

Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu star in HUSTLERS

Jennifer Lopez proved one thing in Hustlers, she can act. As we know sometimes as actor that’s constantly ripped apart in reviews, one film can set them off in a positive direction. For her next project she’s set to star in The Godmother with The Handmaid’s Tale Reed Morano to direct.

The news of this has come via Deadline , who are reporting Morano is in talks to direct. She’s in talks with STX Films with The Departed scribe, William Monahan rewriting the script (originally written by by Terry Winter and Regina Corrado). Jennifer Lopez signed onto the project, last Summer.

Lopez will play the lead role The Godmother, Columbian drug lord Griselda Blanco. Here’s Deadline’s blurb on the film… “The Lopez-fronted The Godmother follows the ups and downs of Blanco, who outsmarted and outhustled the men around her to rise from an impoverished childhood in Colombia to become one of the world’s biggest drug lords. She reportedly was worth more than $2 billion, and was a key figurehead in Miami’s bloody Cocaine Cowboy Wars.

Hustlers was an unexpected hit for Jennifer Lopez, giving the studio their second biggest grossing film, worldwide. Finally giving the actress critical praise which some said was enough to earn her Oscar glory. Hustlers showed JLO had a whole other side to her acting ability. The Godmother looks another perfect platform to show how dark she can go.

Reed Morano recently directed Rhythm Section which was mean’t to be a vehicle to Female fronted action films. Sadly it didn’t work out with suggestions James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli had more influence on the film. Morano and Monahan are set to work together on Sabaya starring Zoe Saldana. The film is about the unlikely circumstances that made possible a 2015 U.S. Special Forces raid that killed a top ISIS leader and started the downfall of the radical Islamic State.
