Ravers to Sci-Fi Masters Kinoteka Polish Film Festival Unveils 2019 Programme

Here at The Peoples Movies we do love a good film festival, a chance to admire, experience great films from around the world. Many we may never see again, what better excuse to visit great festivals like the Kinoteka Polish Film Festival. Today the London based film festival has announced its 17th edition of the festival, from sci-fi masters to 1990’s rave culture.

showcasing an exhilarating range of new Polish cinema and culture, as well as films never before shown in the UK, highlighting lesser known gems ripe for rediscovery, and celebrating work influenced by Polish masters.

The festivalโ€™s highlights include an immersive musical and dining experience for Paweล‚ Pawlikowski’s award winning Cold War which closes the Festival. As well as been treated to a gourmet menua of Polish cuisine, there will be an live concert from musician Zbigniew Namyslowski, former collaborator with legendary film composer Krzysztof Komeda.

The opening Gala will be the previously announced Another Day Of Life. A beautifully animated adaptation of acclaimed Polish journalist Ryszard Kapuล›ciล„skiโ€™s early book.The screening will be introduced by writer and The Guardianโ€™s former associate foreign editor Victoria Brittain, who has extensive experience in reporting from global conflicts.

Every festival always unearth great talent through Special Focus and Kinoteka is no different. There will also be a Big focus on New Female Filmmakers, including Jagoda Szelcโ€™s deeply unsettling psychological horror Monument. Olga Chajdasโ€™s award-winning LGBT romance Nina and the disorientating and acclaimed new film from director of The Lure, Agnieszka Smoczyล„skaโ€™s Fugue.

New Polish Filmmakers offers a selection of ten films encompassing the exciting breadth of contemporary Polish filmmaking โ€“ from the brutal realism of Piotr Domalewskiโ€™s Silent Night to Filip Bajonโ€™s epic costume drama The Butler via the hysterically funny situational humour of Paweล‚ Maล›lonaโ€™s Panic Attack.

No film Festival can go without retrospectives, a chance for cinephiles of all ages to enjoy classic films for the first time or once again on the big screen. Stanislaw Lem A must for all sci-fi fans this major retrospective of one of the godfathers of modern sci-fi takes place at the Barbican and includes the rare Russian television film SOLYARIS and the East German space opera Silent Star. The Quay Brothers also present their film MASK followed by a panel discussion about Lemโ€™s legacy and the challenges of adapting his work to the screen.
