Prano Bailey-Bond’s Censor Gets A UK Trailer

Censor-(2021)

When we learn about great films at festivals around world have a release date we get very excited. That excited the countdown is like a countdown to Christmas day. One of those films is Prano Bailey-Bond’s Censor and next month Vertigo Releasing will bring the film to UK cinemas, today they deliver the UK Trailer!

The film marks Bailey-Bond’s directorial feature debut made it’s world premiere back in January at Sundance Film Festival. Our reviews editor Scott J.Davisย  reviewed the film and loved every minute of the film, describing itย  as “propulsive and thoughtful, touching and frightening“.

The film stars Niamh Algar (Calm With Horses, Raised By Wolves) who plays Enid, an censor during the ‘video nasties’ era in the mid 1980s.ย  When watching a horror for censorship she unearths dark secrets that speaks directly about her missing sister. A path that takes on a dark road to paranoia and conspiracy.

Visually and tonally I get a big Peter Strickland vibe ala Berberian Sound Studio. A psychological mind game that I’m sure will have plenty of twists. Off course a homage to those our determination to see these horror films…

Britain, 1985. When film censor Enid discovers an eerie horror that speaks directly to her sisterโ€™s mysterious disappearance, she resolves to unravel the puzzle behind the film and its enigmatic director โ€“ a quest that will blur the lines between fiction and reality in terrifying ways. Steeped in glorious 1980s aesthetics, Censor is a bloody love letter to the VHS โ€˜video nastyโ€™ horror classics of the past.

The film also stars Michael Smiley, Nicholas Burns, Vincent Franklin, Sophia La Porta, Adrian Schiller, and Clare Holman.

Censor will be released in UK and Irish cinemas from 25th June.
