Oppenheimer’s David Krumholtz To Take Break From Acting
Actor David Krumholtz has taken to social media to share his decision to walk away from the acting industry after a 30-year career in Hollywood, stating he feels โfrustrated, fed up, friedโ following his time on screen.
The star revealed his “indefinite break” from acting in a now-deleted Threads post, mentioning a disapproval of how he and fellow actors are treated on set and after filming, alongside concerns about going “broke.”
โI kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. Itโs been something Iโve been petrified to do for years,โ Krumholtz posted. โSpecifically, the fear was that Iโd go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.โ
After finalising his choice in a “definitive email“, ย “a huge wave of relief washed over” the star.
“Not sure what Iโm going to do for money instead, or how Iโm going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didnโt fathom the weight of until it was gone,” he added. “Frustrated, fed up, fried.โ
Krumholtz’sย feature debut was in the 1993 comedy, Life with Mikey, by director James Lapine and writer Marc Lawrence, appearing in the role of a vain commercial actor called Barry Corman who is a client of and clashes with Michael J. Fox’s Michael Chapman, a former child star turned talent agent. His next film role was Joel Clicker in Addams Family Values that same year, directed by Barry Sonnenfeld,ย followed by 1994’s The Santa Clause as Bernard the Head Elf.

Additional film credits include 10 Things I Hate About You by Gil Junger, Superbad by Greg Mottola and Mr Popper’s Penguins by Mark Waters. Krumholtz’sย latest and most famous roles include that of Nobel Prize-winning Americanย physicist Israel Isaacย “Isidor“ Rabi in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning biopic Oppenheimer in 2024 and Supergirl’s father, Zor-El, in Craig Gilliespie’s DCU installment, Supergirl, this year.
When it came to television, the star featured in Law & Order, ER, Freaks & Geeks, Serenity, the 2020 The Twilight Zone remake and provided voice work in All Hail King Julien. His most popular TV credit was Numb3rs for CBS as maths genius Charlie Eppes from 2005 to 2010.
It seems that Krumholtz’sย last film role will be Julius “Whitey” Horai in the upcoming biographical sports drama film, Mr Irrelevant: The John Tuggle Story, by director Jonathan Levine. The film will chart athlete John Tuggle in his draft into the New York Giants in 1983, with David Corenswet, Isabel May andย Michael Shannon also appearing.
