Kane Parsons Reportedly Directing Backrooms 2 For A24
Are you ready to once again get lost in the backrooms?
Kane Parsons has reportedly signed on to direct Backrooms 2 for A24, according to Dread Central, with an official announcement said to be imminent.
The news doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, since the first film was a massive success at the box office earlier this summer, pulling over $394 million worldwide against a budget of around $10 million.
It also smashed records at A24, becoming the studio’s biggest opening (a record previously held by Civil War) and highest-grossing film ever. And, it made 20-year-old Parsons the youngest director to reach number one at the box office.
Backroomsย follows a therapist (Renate Reinsve) who enters into an endless maze of fluorescent-lit rooms after her patient (Chiwetel Ejiofor) falls through reality into the alternate dimension known as the Backrooms. The film is an adaptation of the viral Backroomsย creepypasta, which Parsons first turned into a horror series when he was just sixteen. It quickly became one of the internetโs most unsettling modern stories.

Parsons was discovered by the film’s executive producer, Chris White, after his teenage son showed him the series. White then reached out to Parsons, and the project was eventually brought to Atomic Monster, which resulted in A24 acquiring the rights and Parsons directing his first feature while he was still a teenager.
The film’s success has left people wondering whether Parsons would do a sequel next or make something else first, especially because it’s known that heโs already developing another project with his mentor Osgood Perkins (Longlegs), who also produced Backrooms.
Now, it seems that question has been answered, and all that’s left to do is wait for an official announcement.
