Olivia Wilde’s The Invite Unveils a Tense First Trailer

Black Bear UK have released the first trailer for Olivia Wilde‘s The Invite, and you can watch it here.
Following Don’t Worry Darling and Booksmart, Wilde returns to the director’s chair with the dramatic comedy penned by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. Starring Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton and Wilde, the film follows Joe and Angela, a couple on thin ice. But when they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbours for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places
At the end of the film’s 23-day shoot, Wilde shared on Instagram that it was filmed in order with “some of the greatest humans ever made”, adding, “I don’t yet have the words to say how meaningful this experience has been. So, for now, I just want to say THANK YOU to every brilliant, kind, hilarious person who made this production happen. I can’t wait to show the world what we all made together.
The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival to a standing ovation, with festival director Kim Yutani calling it “very well deserved.” The premiere marked a dream moment for Wilde and quickly ignited a multi-day bidding war among major studios.
In a Q&A at the festival, Rogan shared that Wilde did not plan to star in the film, sharing, “When I first signed on the movie, [Wilde] was not going to act in it, Edward and I were texting each other like, ‘How the f— do we talk her into being in the movie?’ She kept sending us names of other people. I was like, ‘Why are you doing this? What exercise are we doing here? There’s an obvious person who should do this. And then once she decided to cast herself in this film, which she didn’t seem to want to do, it really took off.”
The Invite releases in UK and Irish cinemas on the 3rd July.
