It was one of the highlight’s of Glasgow Film Festival last month and a film to look out for this spring, Jean Marc Vallee Demolition. Ahead of it’s upcoming release next month in the UK Â Fox Searchlight have shipped us over a new poster, check it out…
In Demolition we meet Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal), a successful investment banker, struggles after losing his wife in a tragic car crash. Despite pressure from his father in law Phil (Chris Cooper) to pull it together, Davis continues to unravel. What starts as a complaint letter to a vending machine company turns into a series of letters revealing startling personal admissions. Davis’ letters catch the attention of customer service rep Karen (Naomi Watts) and, amidst emotional and financial burdens of her own, the two form an unlikely connection. With the help of Karen and her son Chris (Judah Lewis), Davis starts to rebuild, beginning with the demolition of the life he once knew.
When you look at the poster the design might not look much to you until you watch the film when you can truly understand the style. The poster is like a wall with paint ready to crack, it goes with the film’s premise to put together again you have to destroy it. Coping with death affects us in many different ways. Some of us can let it all out, other hold it in, the rest can hold it in but really need something to help unleash the emotion so you can move on. The latter is how Gyllenhaal’s character Davis coped with that emotion sometimes to the bewilderment of those around him.
If enjoyed Dallas Buyers Club, Wild you will enjoy this one. It follows the same premise as those films, a character trying to discover but with a more upbeat feel and fantastic performance from Jake Gyllenhaal too.
Demolition is set for 29th April UK release and Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper alongside newcomer Judah Lewis.
