When it comes that ultimate film or show that got you into Anime, there is a generation that will say Katsuhiro Otomo’s iconic 1988 anime film. The film doesn’t get many cinematic outings and Manga Entertainment have taken advantage of the remastering technology. Along with the film in stunning 4K but also on select IMAX screens too

Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is well on the way to rebuilding after World War III. The central characters, Kaneda and Tetsuo, two high school drop-outs, are members of a joy-riding motorcycle gang. In the opening scene, Kaneda and Tetsuo stumble upon a secret government project to develop telekinetic humans, apparently for use as weapons. Tetsuo learns of the existence of his ‘peer’ Akira, the project’s most powerful subject, and determines to challenge him…
With Covid-19 Pandemic still affecting life, Akira in 4K in select UK and Irish Cinemas & IMAX release date still to be confirmed. It will be shown in 300 cinemas and you can keep up to date as well as find out what cinemas showing the film here.
