MUBI Set To Release Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Hot Milk In UK Cinemas

Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s Hot Milk will receive its World Premiere in Competition at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival on Friday 14th February. Ahead of that premiere boutique distributor MUBI have announced they will release the film in UK and Irish cinemas in May.

Rebecca Lenkiewicz has made a name for herself as an , Playwright, author. She will be known  alsofor a screenwriting with Ida, Disobedience, She Said, upcoming The Salt Path starring (Hello to) Jason Issacs and Gillian Anderson. This film will be her directorial feature debut.

The film stars Emma Mackey (Sex Education, Emily), and Fiona Shaw (Bad Sisters, Killing Eve), Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread, Corsage), Vincent Perez (Alone in Berlin, Boléro) Yann Gael (Gladiator II, 1899) and Patsy Ferran (Mickey 17, Firebrand).

Hot Milk is based on Deborah Levy’s award nominated book of the same name. Set in the middle of the Summer Rose (Shaw) travels with her daughter Sofia (Mackey) to Almeria, Spain. In hope to find a potential cure for her mysterious illness, Sofia is feeling trapped only to be drawn to charms of Ingrid (Krieps).

Set in the scorching heat of a Spanish summer, the film follows Rose (Fiona Shaw) and her daughter Sofia (Emma Mackey) as they travel to the seaside town of Almería to consult Gómez(Vincent Perez), an enigmatic healer who may hold the key to Rose’s mysterious illness. But in the sun-drenched town, Sofia, trapped till now by her mother’s condition, begins to shed her inhibitions as she is drawn to the magnetic charms of a free-spirited traveller, Ingrid (Vicky Krieps).

Sofia’s increased freedom becomes too much for her controlling mother, and as the hot sun beats down, their relationship simmers with pent-up resentment and bitterness, threatening to tear the fragile threads that hold them together.

Hot Milk will make it’s world premiere at Berlinale on 14th February, the film will be in UK and Irish cinemas from 30th May.
