Mr. And Mrs. Smith Season 2 “Indefinitely Delayed”
Production on a second season of Amazon Prime Video’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith has reportedly been delayed indefinitely. The show, created by Donald Glover (who also starred in season one) and Francesca Sloane, was initially due to start filming in the fall. As a result, the release date has been pushed back with no new filming start date planned.
Anora starย Mark Eydelshteyn andย Yellowjackets’ Sophie Thatcher had been cast as Season 2โs eponymous Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but it’s unclear if the changes to filming impact the casting. Mr. & Mrs. Smith were also set to move to Los Angeles for the filming of season two (season one was filmed mostly in New York). The Amazon MGM Studios-produced show was due to get a $22.4 million tax credit from the California Film Commission. Per the rules, productions have to film within 18 months of receiving the credit, which was awarded at the end of March.ย
Showrunner Francesca Sloane, who created and executive produces the series with Donald Glover, has just moved to HBO with an overall dealย and will write the opening episode ofย Big Little Liesย Season 3, which could factor into the delay.
The first season of the show earned 16 Emmy nominations, including best drama series. Prime Video then ordered a second season in May 2024. Glover and Maya Erskine were the leads in season one, earning Emmy nods for their performances, but were not slated to return onscreen, although Glover remains on the show as an executive producer.
