Michael Bay reveals Why He Signed Up For Transformers 4

“This will be My Last”, how many times have we heard this before not just in film but in many high profile jobs, after Dark Of The Moon was finished Michael Bay said enough was enough for his time on the Transformers franchise. However how many times have we heard filmmakers say no more but return? Michael Bay! Summer 2014 Transformers 4 will be invading the cinemas near you but the question is why has bay decided to come back after 3 filmsย  which have frankly brought the biggest grin on Paramount’s bank manager but leaving the director no inbetween projects?

Much has been said about Pain and Gain Bay’s comedy starring Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg been one of the conditions of coming back to Transformers been the reason, a project he has wanted to create for a longtime. When you look back Michael Bay never really gave a reason why he decided to go back on his word? He wanted to try something differentย  and he is but has he gave into temptation like Peter Jackson with Middle Earth and went back to the world he loves, the world of the Transformers.

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Bay revealed that Dark of The Moon would be the final film in the franchise with a new face coming in for the reboots/sequels and with the financial success of those 3 films signalled Paramount would create more films…..

I thought I was done. Thenย the ride came out [at Universal Studios Hollywood]ย and the two-and-a-half-hour lines. And then youโ€™re thinking, Oh my God, someoneโ€™s going to take this over. And you start doing a lot of soul-searching. Like, OK, Iโ€™m about to do a little movie, Pain & Gain โ€ฆ and the studio says they want to restart the franchise. And someone could come in here and screw it up, you know? So Iโ€™m thinking that if I do this last one, we set it on a new footing, we change a lot of things โ€” but we keep the history of the three in place. But we broaden it so it can be set up and be carried on โ€” it would have a better chance for survival, I guess. You know?

Well with that money Bay has brought the studio to get their man it does look like Pain And Gain might just well be that carrot for the donkey and using some of that money he brought them has also helped.

(Paramount) wanted me to do something bigger. There are not a lot of people who do these big movies. So thatโ€™s why you have to twist their arm a little bit to do (something like Pain and Gain). So I basically said, โ€˜All right, Iโ€™ll do Transformers 4, weโ€™ll do this little movie โ€” weโ€™ll do both.So it was just one of those things. Itโ€™s like, when you look whatโ€™s going on in the film business with the franchise frenzy right now, why is Cameron doing two more Avatar movies? Why is Peter Jackson doing three more Hobbit movies that are in the same world as Lord of the Rings? When you have a franchise, itโ€™sย veryย hard to give it up.

So like any filmmaker who has kicked off a franchise, groomed it and brought it success so when it’s time to hand over the keys its obvious that they’ll have reservations on who they hand them over too. They don’t want things ruined however Michael Bay has got a cheek as Revenge The Fallen was in his words ruined after a strong start but what new could Bay bring to Transformers 4?He has said the new film wont be a reboot nor will it include any of the previous live action cast of previous films but will be a continuation of the series following events in Chicago after Dark Of The Moon.

Still happy to check this one out? I am have trouble thinking we’re in line for more of the cheese slo-mo action, it just makes you think Peter Berg’s Battleshit was just keeping us warm with those reminders of the franchise. Pain And Gain will be with us on April 26th 2013 and Transformers 4 coming June 27th 2014.
