MCM London Comic Con

The MCM London Comic Con is a truly strange event; a circus where the audience is the main attraction.

The costumed fans are truly a sight to behold. I must confess that roughly 77% of characters they were portraying went over my head, ranging from animé, video-games, comic book and film heroes, and villains. It’s initially quite daunting to walk among them; everyone is so relaxed wearing such bizarre costumes you start to feel like a freak for just wearing a T-shirt and trainers. Luckily my trusty old ally alcohol was there to relax me. My colleague suggest a drinking game where you take a swig every time you see someone dressed as Harley Quinn – well that was the end of us.

The guest’s and the talks aren’t quite on a par with those at the yearly London Film and Comic Con but there are far more many cosplayers and the atmosphere is far more relaxed and enjoyable. The fun spills outside to gardens at the back of the Excel Centre, with a stage set up for dance acts and singers.

Luckily there are two a year, the next taking place from the 23rd to the 25th of October. This gives you plenty of time to create, or if you’re well off buy a costume. If you’re not the sort of person inclined to dressing up then do not fear for alcohol can be purchased on the day.
