McKenna Grace Joins The Hunger Games: Sunshine On A Reaping

McKenna Grace joins the new Hunger Games film

After news broke earlier in the week that Lionsgate had found its two leads for their upcoming prequel, The Hunger Games: Sunshine on a Reaping, they had been joined by a Ghostbuster.

McKenna Grace, known for her roles as Phoebe in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Frozen Empire, has joined the film as Maysilee Donner, who is Haymitch Abernathy’s fellow District 12 tribute, in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping book. She joins leads Joseph Zada will play Haymitch in the movie, while Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove Baird, Haymitch’s love interest.

The plot of the novel summarises: “Sunrise on the Reaping revisits the world of Panem twenty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Fiftieth Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.” 

Francis Lawrence, who directed Catching Fire, Mockingjay Parts One and Two, and 2023’s first prequel, Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, helms the new film too from a screenplay by Billy Ray, who wrote the screenplay for the first film. McKenna Grace has a busy 2025, with roles in Nobody 2, Five Night’s At Freddy’s 2 and Regretting You all due for release, as well as a role in Scream 7 due next February. 

Rumours abound last month that Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Kieran Culkin, and Jesse Plemons may also be part of the cast, though unconfirmed.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping will be released on November 20th, 2026.
