Emma Thompson Is Latest In Talks For Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping Role

Emma Thompson is reportedly in talks to portray Drusilla Sickle in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.Â
According to Nexus Point News, Lionsgate is in the early stages of casting for the prequel film. It is set 40 years after the events of A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and 30 years before the original The Hunger Games. The novel the film will be based on was released by Suzanne Collins late last month and takes place during Haymitch Abernathy’s games, the Second Quarter Quell or 50th year.
Drusilla is an escort from the Capitol who hosts the reaping of District 12 tributes.
Sunrise on the Reaping will be directed by Francis Lawrence (who also directed every The Hunger Games film other than the first) while Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson are producing. Billy Ray is writing the script, and filming begins in July in Germany.
Thompson’s possible casting follows several other rumoured roles being filled, such as Charlie Plummer for the young version of Haymitch, who was played by Woody Harrelson in the trilogy.
Ralph Fiennes has been reported to be a possible candidate for President Coriolanus Snow, which has already had two actors (Donald Sutherland and Tom Blyth) fill the role, and Kieran Culkin has apparently been in talks about portraying a young Caeser Flickerman (previously Stanley Tucci).
Jesse Plemons has also been rumoured to be up for a younger Plutarch Heavensbee, which was a role previously held by Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping will be released on November 20th, 2026.
