Matt Reeves The Batman Will Not Be A ‘Origins Story’
Like every film about to be released or in production, hearts sunk when everything went into lockdown. With future of many still in balance, one film Matt Reeves The Batman.
The director is currently still in London waiting for production to restart. Whenever we can get back to normality, no one knows. It seems he’s taking advantage of the downtime to work, tweaking film anyway he can. He told of his fine tuning in a interview with Deadline.
” With these movies, you never have enough prep time, because theyโre so complex and so enormous in so many ways. It also gives me a moment to think about the larger sequences that have yet to come up and how I want to realize those.”
Reeves also said โWeโre not officially editing right now. Weโve actually shot a quarter of the movie and I have been pouring through dailies, looking at takes, and whatโs to come.โ
So 25% of the film has been shot, but with deadlines to ease lockdown constantly been changed. The Summer 2021 scheduled release could change. Most off Matt Reeves isn’t editing the film. At the time of shutdown, the film was due to move to Liverpool, he was asked if they relocate to elsewhere โItโs way too early to say. I canโt imagine we wouldnโt finish in London. The situation is fluid.โ
Once again the question was asked what exactly will The Batman be about. The director has stated clearly this will be no ordinary Batman film. Most of all, it won’t be a ‘origins’ film, making it clear in a interview with Nerdist… โI wanted to do not an origin tale, but a tale that would still acknowledge his origins, in that it formed who he is. Like this guy, heโs majorly struggling, and this is how heโs trying to rise above that struggle. But that doesnโt mean that he even fully understands, you know. Itโs that whole idea of the shadow self and whatโs driving you, and how much of that you can incorporate, and how much of it youโre doing that youโre unaware of.โ
We can expect a few nods to the origins possibly flashbacks to Bruce Wayne’s parents deaths. Reeves will certainly have his recurring theme of giving the caped crusader a ‘humanist’ approach. How relevant? โThereโs something in there that feels very psychological, very emotional, and it felt like there was a way of exploring that along with the corruption in this place, Gotham. That feels very current. I think it always does. Thereโs almost no time when you canโt do a story about corruption. But today, it still seems incredibly resonant and maybe, from my perspective, maybe more so than maybe at other time.โ
Matt Reeves won’t reveal too much, he’s hoping The Batman can make it’s 25th June 2021 scheduled release date.
