Martin Scorsese & Leonardo DiCaprio Team up For The Devil In The White City

Ying and Yang, some things are a match made in heaven and Martin Scorsese & Leonardo DiCaprio is one of those matches and the pair are once again teaming up. The dream team are coming together for Erik Larson’s true crime thriller The Devil In The White City.

The project has been labelled by some as a personal project of DiCaprio’s (he bought the rights back in 2010)and what better filmmaker than Scorsese to bring that dream to reality. The film will chronicle real life tales of America’s first recorded serial killer H.H Holmes who slayed anything upto 200 people allegedly in Chicago during 1890’s. A charismatic character whom some believe was inspired by Jack The Ripper who killing spree was only a few year before. There was also talk Holmes whose victims where murdered during the city’s World Fair in 1893 could have been The Ripper. It’s been impossible to actually confirm how many victims Holmes killed.

This would be the sixth time the pair have worked together and it seem DiCaprio’s roles seem to get darker with Martin Scorsese directing he does seem to get the best out of the actor, possibly a Oscar nod? Maybe a little early to say but The Revenant looks an extreme possibility for him.

Oscar Nominated Billy Ray (Django Unchained, The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) will take over the scripting duty , a duty that was marked for Graham Moore (The Imitation Game). This has been a project that’s been around for a while which Warner Bros had up until last month, now Paramount are negotiating the rights. There is gossip that Kathryn Bigelow with Tom Cruise where originally planned for The Devil In The White City which also would have been tempting project but Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio is even more enticing!

Here’s the book synopsis from amazon…

Not long after Jack the Ripper haunted the ill-lit streets of 1888 London, H.H. Holmes (born Herman Webster Mudgett) dispatched somewhere between 27 and 200 people, mostly single young women, in the churning new metropolis of Chicago; many of the murders occurred during (and exploited) the city’s finest moment, the World’s Fair of 1893. Larson’s breathtaking new history is a novelistic yet wholly factual account of the fair and the mass murderer who lurked within it.
