Ludwig Göransson and Miles Carton receive Grammy wins for Sinners
Following major film award season buzz with multiple BAFTA nominations, and making Oscar history with the most Academy nominations for a film, Ryan Coogler’s Western-horror-hybrid Sinners oversaw more accolade triumphs last night at the 68th Grammy Awards.
The 2026 Grammy Awards took place at the Cyrpto.com Arena in Los Angeles, hosted by comedian Trevor Noah. Amongst its overall focus on musical artists, records, songs and dance performances across various music genres, the ceremony also awards the musical aspects of the previous year’s biggest film releases
Sinners is the box-office and culturally powerful hit focusing on vampires attempting to take down a juke joint in Clarksdale, Mississippi. It features an ensemble cast of Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku, Miles Carton, Omar Benson Miller, Delroy Lindo, Li Jun Li, Yao, Jack O’Connell and Hailee Steinfeld. Listed among one of the best films of 2025 and on the receiving end of audience/accolade praise, Coogler’s fifth feature film is one of this year’s Oscar favourites for its immersive visuals, stellar performances and thematically rich narrative.
An additional powerhouse of the film’s magic is its terrific use of music, focusing on celebrating Black resilience and identity through music, including a spectacular scene which sees Black talent and power in music from the past, present and future join as one when Miles Carton’s Little Sammy performs in the juke joint.
Sinners’s soundtrack was created by acclaimed composer Ludwig Göransson, who had previously worked with Coogler on 2011’s Fruitvale Station, 2015’s Creed and 2018’s Black Panther. When talking to the BFI, the composer had previously cited: “Son House was a big inspiration. He also had kind of a similar background to Sammie and was a preacher at times. And the way that he played guitar was incredible.”
For his efforts on the film, Göransson and Sinners took home the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media. Sinners also won for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, with various artists being credited, including actor Carton for vocals and guitar.
Göransson has been nominated at the Grammys 20 times since 2023 and has won three
Additional film wins at last night’s Grammys included Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans’s animation K-Pop Demon Hunters, which took home Best Song Written for Visual Media for Golden by Huntr/x (the first K-Pop song to win a Grammy). Nate Bargatze won for Best Comedy Album for Your Friend, Nate Bargatze, and while the category isn’t strictly film, Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande shared the win for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the epic conclusion song to 2025’s hit musical adaptation Wicked, Defying Gravity.
