Sinners Leads The 2026 Oscar Nominations, Making History

Awards season is officially in full swing, as the American Academy has announced the nominations for the 98th Academy Awards. This year, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners has made history, becoming the most-nominated film in Oscars history. Its 16 nominations firmly establishes the film as the one to beat on Oscar night.

Among its nominations, Michael B. Jordan has been recognised in the Best Actor category for his performance, while Delroy Lindo earned his first ever nomination, for Best Supporting Actor, in what many are calling one of the most exciting surprises of the morning. The film also landed major nominations across directing, writing, and a wide range of technical categories, underlining its dominance with the Academy.

Close behind was One Battle After Another, which secured 13 nominations, including Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson and multiple acting nods. Frankenstein, Marty Supreme and Sentimental Value all made a strong impact, earning nine nominations each across above-the-line and craft categories, with Hamnet receiving eight. 

As ever, there were surprises and snubs among the nominations. No Other Choice was notably absent despite being widely expected to feature. Paul Mescal lost out in the Best Supporting Actor category for Hamnet and Chase Infiniti also missed out on a Best Actress nomination for One Battle After Another, marking one of the more talked-about acting snubs of the morning.
