We may have 2 months to go here in the UK, but next week in the USA Warren Beatty’s Rules Don’t Apply will be released. set to the dulcet tones of Marla Mabrey (Lily Collins) a new musical trailer has been released showcasing new footage, check it out…
Whilst there’s no dialogue amongst the new footage, the song Collins is singing is the titular song “The Rules Don’t Apply,” captures the melancholic tone nicely.
In Rules Don’t Apply An aspiring young actress (Lily Collins) and her ambitious young driver (Alden Ehrenreich) struggle hopefully with the absurd eccentricities of the wildly unpredictable billionaire (Warren Beatty) whom they work for.
It’s Hollywood, 1958. Small town beauty queen and devout Baptist virgin Marla Mabrey (Collins), under contract to the infamous Howard Hughes (Beatty), arrives in Los Angeles. At the airport, she meets her driver Frank Forbes (Ehrenreich), who is engaged to be married to his 7th-grade sweetheart and is a deeply religious Methodist. Their instant attraction not only puts their religious convictions to the test, but also defies Hughes’ #1 rule: no employee is allowed to have any relationship whatsoever with a contract actress. Hughes’ behaviour intersects with Marla and Frank in very separate and unexpected ways, and as they are drawn deeper into his bizarre world, their values are challenged and their lives are changed.
After a long time away from the camera can be a daunting task even for a veteran such as Warren Beatty. This week in the USA the movie is ready to be released and the early reviews are good. This movie was actually made nearly two and half years ago, so that extra time in the editing room looks like was worth the wait.
Rules Don’t Apply will be released in UK&Ireland from January 2017. With an all-star cast consisting of Alec Baldwin, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening, Haley Bennett, Candice Bergen, Matthew Broderick, Dabney Coleman, Lily Collins, Steve Coogan, Alden Ehrenreich, Taissa Farmiga, Ed Harris, Megan Hilty, Oliver Platt and Martin Sheen.
