Killer Thrillers And Creature Features On ARROW In September
Japanese Killer Thriller, King and Romero together again, A sci-fi found footage gem, Drive-In classics, a creature feature….
Summer is gone, Autumn is knocking on the door and ARROW have an explosive selection of films streaming on the channel this September. A month that including a Japanese blockbuster, an insanely good home invasion shocker, a superb Stephen King/George A.Romero anthology, a monster movie in stunning 4K, and much more.
First in September, exclusively on the channel – Haruki Kadokawa‘s gripping crime drama Proof of the Man. He introduced the concept of the blockbuster to the country, featuring an all-star cast, headed up by Joe Yamanaka and Toshiro Mifune. Adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Seiichi Morimura by director Junya Sato (The Bullet Train). Proof of the Man is a compelling exploration of racial identity and the trauma of the postwar occupation period framed in the form of a whodunnit.
There’s more great Japanese cinema coming in September, from acclaimed directors to rediscovered gems. The Guard from Underground by celebrated psychological horror director Kiyoshi Kurosawa (Cure, Cloud) tells the dark tale of a worker going on a murderous rampage, that is both a commentary on corporate life and a B-movie slasher. Rediscovered 80s home invasion gem Door, where a Japanese housewife regrets turning away a persistent door-to-door salesman.
Showing in a new 4K Restoration in September is “like nothing you’ve ever seen before—it’s alive!” – namely Gorgo, a cautionary tale about perhaps not putting a huge prehistoric lizard in the circus in case its even bigger mother comes to find it! A creature feature classic, you’ll believe a giant lizard can stomp London into pieces!
Early found footage classic The McPherson Tape, Dean Alioto’s shot-on-VHS alien abduction shocker is set on a typical fall evening in 1983, where a young man was videotaping his niece’s 5th birthday party. As the night’s strange occurrences took place, he kept his video camera running, recording the entire event.
Titans of terror George A. Romero and Stephen King deliver yet another selection of blood-curdling tales in Creepshow 2, the follow-up to the 1982 horror classic. Retaining the same EC comic book flavor that made the original such a hit.
Also streaming in September: A superb drive-in documentary, and an Eddie Romero drive-in exploitation classics triple bill with Pam Grier and Sid Haig among the cast; comedy legend Chris Elliott in Clara’s Ghost; and eerie Austrian horror Masking Threshold.
