Jenna Ortega Says She’ll Step Away From TV After ‘Wednesday’

Jenna Ortega has revealed that she doesn’t plan to sign up for another TV series once Wednesday finishes its run on Netflix.

The actress made the comments in an interview with Happy Sad Confused while promoting her new film Klara and the Sun. When asked whether she would commit to another franchise, Ortega said she hasn’t had many conversations like that and believes the right projects will find her. “I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while,” she said.

She explained that she spent years moving from show to show as a child and wants to leave room for new things. Her early TV work includes Jane the Virgin and Stuck in the Middle, before she made the jump to film with roles in two Scream movies.

There’s no word yet on whether the upcoming third season of Wednesday, which has already finished filming, will be the show’s last. Ortega told Esquire in August that the series is heading towards a climax, but Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything either way, so it remains unclear whether the new episodes will serve as a farewell. It’s also not been confirmed when the next season of Wednesday is being released.

Either way, Ortega has plenty on the film side to look forward to. She’s attached to Cathy Yan’s dark comedy thriller The Gallerist and J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi fantasy The Great Beyond, both due out next year. Those projects suggest her focus is firmly on the big screen for the foreseeable future, which fits neatly with her comments about leaving space for something new after so many years in television.
