Janet McTeer And Paapa Essiedu In Talks To Join Harry Potter HBO Series?
Actors in talks to play Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape?
The cast for HBO Harry Potter series is starting to take shape with actors Janet McTeer And Paapa Essiedu in talks to join the cast. According to Deadline they are in line to star as Professor McGonagall and Professor Snape!
If things go well both actors will take their seats onboard The Hogwarts Express next to John Lithgow. The Conclave actor is signed on to play Albus Dumbledore, a role first played by Richard Harris, then Michael Gambon.
Professor Minerva McGonagall was played Dame Maggie Smith during the films, an half blood Scottish witch who was an assistant head of Hogwarts. An intimidating character who took no crap from no student or anyone in general. She was Hogwarts Transfiguration teacher, McTeer recently appeared in the cancelled Netflix series Kaos. The report does say the talks are still in the early stages and if we go buy her performances on Kaos McTeer can certainly live up to what’s expected in the role.

The talks with Paapa Essiedu seem to be more in advance to play Severus Snape. Professor Snape was originally played by Alan Rickman and was the school’s Professor of Potions. Snape was always portrayed as an antagonist of Harry Potter, but we know from the films he was the total opposite. Essiedu is one of the best upcoming British actors and this role will be a longtime commitment. However Snape is possibly one of JK Rowling‘s best created characters.
The Harry Potter HBO series is slated for a late 2026 or early 2027 release and HBO have yet to officially comment on any of the casting rumours. What do Harry Potter fans think on this news? Do you like the choices?
