James Gunn Diffuses Man of Tomorrow Cameo Rumours
DC filmmaker James Gunn has taken to social media to downplay rumours about which comic characters are due to appear in his upcoming comic adaptation sequel, Man of Tomorrow, the follow-up to 2025’s Superman. The sequel will see David Corenswet reprise his role as the Man of Hope, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as his love interest Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as his nemesis Lex Luthor and Milly Alcock as his cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl.
New faces set to join the new DC Universe, which has replaced and rebooted the anticlimactic DCEU (2013-2023), include Lars Eidinger as the new villain Brainiac, Xolo Maridueña as Blue Beetle and Aaron Pierre as John ‘Green Lantern’ Stewart, who have been confirmed as casting additions to the fourth DCU installment.
However, some DC fans remain sceptical of character and cast details, including rumours that Adria Arjona is replacing former star Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, rather than appearing as Maxima, alongside other DC characters potentially making surprise on-screen appearances.
Gunn recently discussed Man of Tomorrow’s character list in a reply to an online question about the possibility of surprise cameos.
“It’s a movie about Lex and Clark. People shouldn’t expect substantial amounts of other characters,” Gunn revealed via a SuperSagaNews thread. “Things have been blown way out of proportion, and most stuff is just dead wrong.”

Superman was the opener for the reboot DC Universe, focusing on Clark Kent taking on Luthor after the superhero interferes with international affairs executed by the billionaire, as well as battling for public support during times of media propaganda. The film grossed $618.7 million from its budget of $225 million and earned critical and audience acclaim for its themes, use of colour following a darker take on the DC comics, heartfelt performances and its titular character being portrayed with great essence.
It was followed by a spin-off, 2026’s Supergirl, directed by Craig Gillespie, which sees Alcock return as Supergirl following an ending cameo in the original film, with Corenswet returning as Superman. The third installment in the DCU will be the upcoming Clayface standalone film, set to star Tom Rhys Harries as Matt ‘Clayface’ Hagen as he succumbs to a horrific body transformation after he seeks a remedy for a brutal attack. Pitched as DC’s “first horror film,” Clayface is directed by James Watkins and is due for a 23rd October release.
Superman: Man of Tomorrow is due for cinemas on 9th July, 2027.
