‘It’s Complicated’ In UK Trailer For Blue Jean
It was one of the festival favourites of 2022, Georgia Oakley’s searing drama Blue Jean is for UK release next month. Today Altitude Film release the official Trailer and ‘it’s complicated’ in 1980’s Britain for female PE Teacher.
The film stars Rosy McEwan and we find ourselves in Newcastle. She is Jean, a PE Teacher at a local school living a double life. All thanks Margaret Thatcher’s government ruling introduced called Section 28. This law states British state schools not to teach or accept homosexuality within a family environment. Jean is a gay woman and her professional integrity is challenged pushing her into a crisis. Especially after the arrival of a new girl at school.
The reviews for Oakley’s debut feature have been fantastic. A social realist film which highlights the doggedness of queer community during a turbulent decade.
England, 1988 – Margaret Thatcher’s Conservative government are about to pass a law stigmatising gays and lesbians, forcing Jean, a PE teacher, to live a double life. As pressure mounts from all sides, the arrival of a new girl at school catalyses a crisis that will challenge Jean to her core.
The film stars Kerrie Hayes and newcomer Lucy Halliday as Lois. Along side Stacy Abalogun, Lydia Page , Amy Booth-Steel and Farrah Cave round out the outstanding British cast.
Blue Jean will be officially released in UK and Irish cinemas from 10th February. There will be a number of previews before then including Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT), HOME Manchester, Forum Cinema Hexham and Tyneside Cinema Newcastle. Full details can be found at Altitude Films website.
