Interview: Stacy Martin on Directorial Debut Amaretti and Sense & Sensibility Remake

To celebrate the release of his new film, we had the chance to sit down with director and actor Stacy Martin about her short directorial debut, Amaretti, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

We talked about her debut as a director and writer, her previous experience working with Brady Corbet and Mona Fastvold in The Brutalist and The Testament of Ann LeeWe also chatted about future projects, including Sense & Sensibility, which will come out in September in the UK.

Synopsis:

Written and directed by Stacy Martin (The Brutalist), the film stars Diana Quick and Emily Beecham as Lenny and Lola, telling the story of an elderly woman who discovers that her adult son may have lied about a medical condition for years as she connects with a psychiatrist. Amaretti tells its story from the perspective of the victim, making Lenny the sole protagonist of a heartbreaking story made up of loss, complicated family relationships, unexpected connections, and reclaiming one’s identity.
