Folktales interview with co-director Rachel Grady

Following the release of Folktales, a new documentary from acclaimed filmmakers Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing, we had the pleasure of sitting with Grady to discuss the poignant Norway-based film.

The documentary follows a group of Norwegian students at a folk high school as they learn the practice of dog sledding.

Beneath that surface, Folktales is a moving coming-of-age story. These teenagers serve as the filmโ€™s focal point, revealing their backgrounds, traumas, and determination to grow. With a powerful cinematic aesthetic, the film transports the audience not only to the idyllic winter in Norway but to the hearts and minds of these endearing young people.

In our conversation, Grady (Jesus Camp, DETROPIA) spoke of the challenges that came with working on location. Additionally, the director discussed how the film materialised and the fascinating on-set experiences.
