What happens when you have the daughter of the guy from Miami Vice and Daughter of music icon Diana Ross? The High Note and today Universal Pictures have released the First (UK) Trailer.
Nisha Ganatra has already attempted showcase the life of an ‘assistant’/writer in Late Night. For this one we leave Late Night Television for the dazzling world of the Los Angeles music scene. Dakota Johnson plays Maggie the overworked personal assistant for Grace Davis (Tracee Ellis Ross). Maggie has her own aspirations and plans are put in place.
The film continues Ganatra’s mentoring/ friendship amongst women. You always need great chemistry between the lead actors, Johnson and Ross seem to have this. Ross may have dabbled in singing in Black-ish, can she do it for the big screen? No pressure you are the daughter of a Motown legend!
Set in the dazzling world of the LA music scene comes the story of Grace Davis (Tracee Ellis Ross), a superstar whose talent, and ego, have reached unbelievable heights. Maggie (Dakota Johnson) is Grace’s overworked personal assistant who’s stuck running errands, but still aspires to her childhood dream of becoming a music producer. When Grace’s manager (Ice Cube) presents her with a choice that could alter the course of her career, Maggie and Grace come up with a plan that could change their lives forever.
The film also stars Kelvin Harrison Jr., Ice Cube, Zoe Chao, Eddie Izzard, Bill Pullman, Diplo.
The High Note will be released in the UK and Ireland from 29th May on Digital HD.
