The Shining is regarded as many as the greatest horror film ever. To many horrorphiles it would be sacrilege if there was to be a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s 1980 masterpiece. 2013 Stephen King made it possible when he wrote Doctor Sleep. It was only the matter of time before someone made it a film and six years after the award winning novel was published its coming!
We find ourselves forty years after the horrors of Overlook Hotel Danny Torrance (played by Ewan McGregor)is still looking for his peace. Struggling to exorcise the pain of the trauma Dan encounters Abra (Kyliegh Curran) and the pair join together to fight Rose The Hat (Rebecca Ferguson). Taking Dan on a path to his ghosts of his past.
Like any iconic film, delivering an unexpected sequel will be greeted with trepidation. The source of this film is from a King book, it does feel like its beast. With homage to the Kubrick with references to the original.
Mike Flanagan is the director for this one. He also directed Netflix series The Haunting of Hill House an iconic story itself.
Warner Bros. has released the first UK Trailer, check out…Here’s Danny!
Doctor Sleep continues the story of Danny Torrance, 40 years after his terrifying stay at the Overlook Hotel in The Shining. Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson and newcomer Kyliegh Curran star in the supernatural thriller, directed by Mike Flanagan, from his own screenplay based upon the novel by Stephen King.
Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. But that peace is shattered when he encounters Abra, a courageous teenager with her own powerful extrasensory gift, known as the “shine.” Instinctively recognizing that Dan shares her power, Abra has sought him out, desperate for his help against the merciless Rose the Hat and her followers, The True Knot, who feed off the shine of innocents in their quest for immortality.
Forming an unlikely alliance, Dan and Abra engage in a brutal life-or-death battle with Rose. Abra’s innocence and fearless embrace of her shine compel Dan to call upon his own powers as never before—at once facing his fears and reawakening the ghosts of the past.
Co-starring Bruce Greenwood, Zahn McClarnon, Alex Essoe, Jacob Tremblay, Carl Lumbly, and Jocelin Donahue. Doctor Sleep will arrive in UK and Irish Cinemas on 31st October (8th November USA).
