Sorry, Baby & Wicked: For Good Lead The 2026 Girls On Film Awards

Sorry Baby is Eva Victor's acclaimed debut

The awards season is heating up and the team at the Girls On Film podcast have announced their nominations. Sorry, Baby and Wicked: For Good lead the 2026 shortlist with a total ofย  six nods each.

Girls On Film co-founders Anna Smith and Hedda Lornie Archbold made the announcement today. The cast of Sorry, Baby featured strongly, with nominations for Supporting Role, Female Friendship On Screen and Ensemble, alongside Best Film, Director and Cinematography. Similarly, the performances in Wicked: For Good earned the film nods for Leading Role, Supporting Role and Female Friendship On Screen, as well as being represented in the Cinematography and Intimacy categories. Its director, Jon M Chu, is also in the running for the Ally Award.

Chloe Zhao‘s Hamnet, which arrives in UK cinemas tomorrow, picked up nods for Best Film, Director, Leading Role (Jessie Buckley) and Production Design. Sinners was also recognised for Production Design, Cinematography and Intimacy, with Ryan Coogler making the shortlist for the Ally Award. Behind them with three nods each are Dragonfly, Die My Love, The Chronology Of Water, and If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.

The awards celebrate outstanding filmmaking and extraordinary talent both in front of and behind the camera, with craftswomen recognised across cinematography, music, editing, production design and intimacy. The Ally Award recognises a male filmmaker who champions the representation and empowerment of women in film.

โ€œOur nominations celebrate films about complex women, and the teams who tell these stories,โ€ said Girls On Film host and co-founder Anna Smith. โ€œWhether real or fictional, the people on screen arenโ€™t simply characterised by their gender, race, sexuality or circumstances. They are much more than politicians, refugees, academics, mothers, daughters, lovers, or indeed, witches. True to the Girls On Film mission, many of the films question how stories are told, and from whose perspective. And Iโ€™m proud that our groundbreaking Female Friendship on Screen category continues to identify some of the most important and entertaining feminist films of the year.โ€

The winners of the 5th annual Girls On Film Awards will be announced on February 2nd.
