Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein Given October Release Date

Netflix has confirmed today that Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale, Victor Frankenstein, – aka Frankenstein – has been given both a theatrical release date and one for its streaming service. It has also debuted its first teaser art for the film.

Frankenstein follows a brilliant but egotistical scientist (Oscar Isaac) who brings a creature (Jacob Elordi) to life through a monstrous experiment, ultimately leading to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation. The film is the latest adaptation of Mary Shelley’s book ‘Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus,’ after previous iterations such as the original in 1931 starring Boris Karloff and then the Hammer Films series starring Pet

 

er Cushing. It has been given the theatrical release date of the 17th October for select cinemas, with the film being added to the streaming service as of the 7th November.

Isaac and Elordi will be joined in the cast by the likes of Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Christian Convery, with Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. The screenplay has been written by Guillermo del Toro, who has also directed and produced. He was joined in producing the film by J. Miles Dale and Scott Stuber. Frankenstein is the continuation of Netflix’s partnership with del Toro, which includes the Academy Award-winning Pinocchio, the anthology series Cabinet of Curiosities, and the Trollhunters franchise.
